Is the debate over genetically manufactured salmon pointless?

Here is an article from TIME Magazine about the debate over GM salmon. The author argues that we are farming the wrong fish, and should instead be farming vegetarian fish such as tilapia or arctic char. He declares that "Instead of trying to change the fish to our tastes, maybe we should try changing our tastes to fit the fish."
